Networking

Networking is a general term that can be used in many different areas, for example, social networking, computer networking etc…In general the term networking is used to describe a communication between two or more of a particular thing. Computer networking, also known as data communications, these terms refer to the discipline engineering that concerns the communication between computer systems or devices.

A set of computers or devices connected to each other with the ability to exchange data can be described as a computer network. Computer networking relies upon theoretical and practical applications of scientific and engineering disciplines. There are three types of networks: internet, intranet and extranet. These methods are implemented by a variety of different networking methods which include: Local area network (LAN) this is used normally for a small network which covers a small geographic area, for example, within a building; Metropolitan area network (MAN) this is used with medium sized areas such as cities or states; Wide area network (WAN) this type of network covers a large geographic area; and finally Wireless LANs and WANs which are simply the wireless equivalents of LAN and WAN.

Networking is used by many people in everyday life. For example, wireless networks are set up in homes for the use of computers and laptops from different areas. Also businesses generally use a network which information can be passed on in a quick efficient manner by all staff. Networking is a valuable tool for many people in terms of communication. Without a network many businesses would struggle to function in a productive manner.
